Navigating the future of expertise
Gaining instant access to information has never been easier. But, as the use of AI tools continues to proliferate, and our means of consuming knowledge evolve, so too must the unwritten rulebook for what it means to be a trusted authority. Cutting through the noise and filtering for misinformation requires true expertise.
For professionals in an expert network, this means understanding a new set of do's and don'ts. The core of our business is built on providing clients with genuine, human insights. Upholding that standard requires a commitment to authenticity above all else.
Establishing a new rulebook for expert credibility
The most beneficial and rewarding relationships between clients and experts are those that are based on mutual trust. A foundation that is established through authenticity and transparency from both parties.
✅ Do: Lean into what you genuinely know.
True expertise is about having depth of knowledge in specific or niche areas. The most respected experts are the ones who are confident enough to say, "That's outside my area of expertise." This simple act of honesty builds immense credibility. Clients value a targeted, honest perspective far more than a broad, or overly high level one. As an expert, it is the unique insights, resulting from years of on-the-ground experience, that clients are truly interested in.
✅ Do: Be authentic and transparent.
In an era of misinformation, authenticity is an expert’s greatest asset. We encourage our experts to always speak from their own personal experience, and if they are unsure, to be transparent about it. This is a far more powerful strategy for building a lasting reputation, as authenticity is a key differentiator. Understanding unique and individual perspectives is the core reason clients choose to engage with human experts over a search engine or an AI model. Sharing what they know (and equally, what they don’t) must be an expert's priority when engaging in calls.
❌ Don’t: Embellish or exaggerate experience.
There may be a temptation for experts to expand professional narratives to appear as the perfect fit for a greater range of clients. Claiming experience beyond their genuine area of knowledge creates risk for everyone involved. Embellishing experience undermines this process. It not only exposes experts to potentially difficult questions they are unable to answer, but also devalues the client experience, compromising the foundational trust placed in expert networks for authentic insights.
Equally, clients look to speak to experts based on their personal lived experiences. This means details such as whether they were a customer, curator, or creator of a particular product or service are highly important. Honesty in this regard is imperative for maintaining expert credibility and building trust with clients.
Our rigorous verification processes are in place precisely to mitigate these risks and ensure declared experience aligns with professional reality. This enables us to uphold the high standards we hold ourselves to in connecting the right experts with the right projects.
❌ Don’t: Misuse AI to fill knowledge gaps.
The value our experts bring is in what they genuinely know, not what they wish they knew. The rapid development of AI tools has made it easier than ever to generate, in a matter of seconds, what may sound like a comprehensive answer. However, clients aren’t engaging with experts to hear an AI generated summary of publicly available information. They are paying for a unique perspective, a lived experience, and a professional judgment, all things AI cannot authentically replicate.
Experts using AI to generate insights and pass them off as their own are not only in breach of our Expert Code of Conduct, but also erode the intrinsic value of the expert-client relationship. We continuously review and monitor for improper use of AI and remove any non-compliant experts to ensure the integrity of our network.
The path to lasting trust
Ultimately, the integrity of expert networks is built on the integrity of experts.
We take a zero tolerance approach to any expert behaviour that does not uphold the Expert Code of Conduct. This investment in closely monitoring expert activity ensures we protect the credible experts in our network. Following these simple do’s and don’ts establishes experts as credible and valued members.
By upholding the highest standards of honesty and focusing on what they genuinely know, experts can not only reinforce their own credibility but also ensure that real insights, from real people, remain the most trusted currency in the modern information economy.
